Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna/fileNairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has firmly dismissed claims that the Linda Mwananchi faction is planning to exit Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), declaring that the group will remain in the party and continue fighting for its direction from within.
Speaking during a Linda Mwananchi press briefing in Nairobi, the senator said speculation that the faction could break away from ODM was misplaced, insisting that their recent actions, including the release of an independent “truth report” reviewing the ODM–UDA 10-Point Agenda, were meant to defend the party rather than undermine it.
“We are not leaving ODM. This party belongs to all of us. We are here to fight for this party even if it means they kill us, let them kill us. Baba did not raise cowards, and we have all contributed to this progress. We are all ODM. ODM is a taxpayer party,” Sifuna declared.
The senator said the Linda Mwananchi team remains loyal to the ideals championed by ODM and its leader, Raila Odinga, stressing that internal criticism should not be interpreted as rebellion.
According to Sifuna, the faction’s push to scrutinise the implementation of the 10-Point Agenda signed between ODM and the ruling party is part of efforts to ensure the commitments made to Kenyans are honoured.
“We are here to defend Baba’s legacy and make sure that political fraud is not committed on Kenyans in the name of Baba. That is our duty as members of ODM,” he said.
His remarks come amid heightened political tension within ODM and growing speculation that divisions within the party could trigger a split.
However, Sifuna said such differences should be addressed internally and should not be interpreted as a signal that some members are preparing to abandon the party.
Similar sentiments have also been expressed by James Orengo, who recently insisted that the Linda Mwananchi faction remains part of ODM despite the ongoing disagreements.
“ODM is a home for all its members. Differences should be addressed within the party. Leaving the party is not the solution,” Orengo said.
He added that political debate and disagreement are normal in a democratic party and should strengthen rather than weaken ODM’s structures.
“We must stay and fight for our principles, not abandon them,” Orengo said.
