Kenya Junior team after being unveiled/ HANDOUT

More than 100 elite junior golfers from 15 African countries will converge in Kenya for the 2026 All-Africa Junior Team Championship (AAJTC) set for March 23–26 at Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club in Nairobi.

It will feature teams from Kenya, Botswana, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The event is expected to be one of the most competitive editions of the continental tournament.

The Government of Kenya has stepped in as the lead sponsor of the continental event after the State Department for Sports Principal Secretary,  Elijah Mwangi, officially launched the championship on Tuesday.

He also unveiled the national junior team that will fly the country’s flag at the four-day tournament. Mwangi said the government’s decision to anchor the event reflects its commitment to youth development and the strategic role sport plays in national growth.

“We are proud to be the anchor sponsor of the All-Africa Junior Team Championship because our investment through the Ministry of Sports reflects our belief in the potential of our youth,” Mwangi said, adding that hosting the continental showpiece strengthens Kenya’s position as a sports tourism destination.

He said, “By hosting this championship, we are not only promoting golf development among young athletes but also positioning Kenya as a premier destination for international sporting events.”

Kenya will field a seven-member squad comprising four boys and three girls drawn from leading clubs across the country as the hosts seek to capitalise on home advantage against the continent’s top junior golfers aged 18 and under.

The boys’ team includes Junaid Manji, Tsevi Soni and Yuvraj Rajput of Sigona alongside Mwathi Gicheru of Royal Nairobi, while the girls’ side features Belinda Wanjiru of Vet Lab Sports Club, Kanana Muthomi (Windsor) and Bianca Ngecu (Muthaiga).

Notably, all four boys in the squad were part of the Kenyan team that lifted the Victoria Cup in Uganda last weekend, a result that underlines the country’s depth in junior golf and boosts confidence ahead of the continental championship.

Junior Golf Foundation president Vincent Mukiri credited the successful hosting bid to strong cooperation among government institutions, international golf bodies and the private sector.

“The journey to host the AAJTC has been made possible through the collective efforts of the Ministry of Sports, the R&A and our corporate partners,” Mukiri said. “This championship provides a vital platform for identifying and nurturing Africa’s emerging golf talent while preparing them for the global stage," he added.

The All-Africa Junior Team Championship is widely regarded as Africa’s premier junior golf event. It has historically served as a pathway to global competitions, including the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Japan. Several past participants have progressed to collegiate golf programmes and professional tours. The 2026 edition will see players compete over four rounds from March 23 to March 26 in both boys’ and girls’ team categories.
