Ugandan singer-songwriter Kenneth Mugabi will bring his soulful acoustic sound to Nairobi for an intimate live performance on 22 March at Nairobi Street Kitchen, introducing Kenyan audiences to a deeply reflective Afro-soul style rooted in storytelling and African identity.
Known for his thoughtful lyricism and stripped-down musical arrangements, Mugabi has built a reputation across East Africa as one of the region’s most distinctive contemporary voices.
The artist has released four albums: Kibun’omu, Ugandan, People of the Land, and Tales of Mugabi, each exploring themes of culture, identity, love, and the evolvingAfrican experience.

For Mugabi, music is not merely a performance but a form of storytelling.
“At my core, I am an African storyteller using melody as memory,” he says.
His Nairobi performance comes at a deliberate moment in his artistic journey as he expands his reach across East Africa. Mugabi describes Nairobi as an important cultural crossroads for the region.
“Nairobi is not just another city — it is East Africa’s cultural and commercial crossroads. The Kenyan audience listens deeply and travels with honest artists.”
Often described as Ugandan Soul, Mugabi’s sound blends acoustic instrumentation, African rhythms, and reflective songwriting. His live shows are intentionally intimate, emphasizing the connection between artist and audience.
“It will feel less like a concert and more like being invited into a living room of truth,” he explains.

Audiences attending the Nairobi performance can expect stripped-down instrumentation, unfiltered vocals, and storytelling between songs, an experience designed to bring listeners closer to the heart of the music.
As an independent artist, Mugabi has focused on building his career through regional collaboration and artistic ownership, maintaining control over his creative narrative and touring strategy.
“The future of African music is not dependency. It is intra-African collaboration first.”
In an era dominated by fast-moving digital trends, Mugabi believes intimate acoustic performances restore the essence of music.
“Intimate acoustic experiences restore listening, emotional presence, and human connection. They remind audiences why music mattered before it became content.”

The Nairobi show marks Mugabi’s first major live appearance in the Kenyan capital and is expected to draw lovers of Afro-soul, live acoustic music, and East African storytelling.
