Ahmed capitalised on sustained pressure inside the KSG Ogopa box, sparked by teammates Giovanni Lukhumwa and Erick Otieno, before coolly tapping home from six yards out past goalkeeper Mark Ali.
Captain Oduor believes the result is further proof that the side has the belief and cohesion to mount a deep cup run. “The team has good chemistry and we are looking forward to the next match."
“We are very confident that whoever we face, we are going to win," he said. The skipper added that sticking to the tactical blueprint laid out by the technical bench had played a crucial role in navigating the tricky tie. “The game was good and we approached it exactly according to the guidance of the technical bench,” he noted.
Oduor also pointed out that the improved playing surface helped the team express themselves better compared to their previous outing. “The pitch today was also playable compared to the previous game,” he said.
Kuta Collections had earlier announced themselves in the competition during the Round of 64, eliminating Al-Azizia FC of the FKF National Super League after a dramatic 6-5 penalty shootout victory following a 2-2 draw in regulation time at Kinoru Stadium.
Despite their fairytale run, the Nairobi-based side continue to operate under modest circumstances. The team has no permanent training ground, keeps sharp through friendly matches and relies heavily on the goodwill of supporters, including Pura Vida Sports Africa and player-coach Augustine Mtiang’a Kuta.
Kuta, who previously featured in the top flight with clubs such as Nairobi City Stars and Posta Rangers FC, recently hung up his boots to focus on running his sports shop, Kuta Collections.
