Since the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on February 28, 2026, the Iranian military has launched a series of strikes against high-value American assets, fundamentally shifting the security landscape for the 40,000 to 50,000 US troops stationed across ten different countries.

The scope of the Iranian offensive is vast, reaching strategically critical installations from the Levant to the Persian Gulf.

In Iraq, the Ain al-Asad Air Base has faced renewed strikes, while the reach of Iranian operations has extended as far as the RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, a British base hosting U.S. forces.

Major aerial hubs have not been spared, with Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base, and Kuwait’s Ali Al-Salem Air Base all confirmed as targets in this recent wave of aggression.

Maritime and logistical nodes have also come under fire. The Duqm Port in Oman and Kuwait’s Camp Buehring are among the sites hit by Iranian forces.

While some installations, such as Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti and Qatar’s Camp As Sayliyah, have not been targeted at this stage, the persistent threat remains a defining challenge for U.S. operations.
