His father, Paul Kittony, was a primary school teacher, while his mother, Zipporah Kittony, is a renowned women’s rights advocate and former chairperson of Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation.

She later served as a nominated senator in Kenya’s 11th Parliament, where she championed gender equality and community development.

Growing up in such an environment exposed Kittony to leadership, civic engagement, and the importance of public service from an early age.

His family later settled in Kitale in Trans Nzoia County, where he spent much of his childhood.

The region also shaped his lifelong interest in agriculture, which remains one of his personal business pursuits.

Kittony is married to Rosemary Chelangat Kittony and together they have four children.

Education and academic background

Kittony’s academic journey began in Kericho before his family moved to Nairobi, where he attended Lavington Primary School. He later completed part of his primary education in Kitale.

For his secondary education, he joined Lenana School in Nairobi, one of the country’s leading public secondary schools.

He later enrolled at the University of Nairobi, where he pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree before returning years later to study law.

At the university, he earned both a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws degree, equipping him with a strong foundation in business and legal affairs.

He later obtained a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.

Kittony further strengthened his global business credentials through executive education, earning a Global Executive MBA offered jointly by United States International University Africa (USIU-Africa) and Columbia University in the United States.

Entrepreneur and corporate leader

Over the years, Kittony has played a major role in shaping Kenya’s private sector landscape.

He is widely known for revitalising the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) during his tenure as chairman, transforming it into a stronger voice for business and enterprise development.

Under his leadership, the organisation expanded its membership and strengthened engagement with government on economic policy and trade.

Kittony is also a serial entrepreneur who has been involved in establishing and leading several companies across different industries.

Among them are Creditinfo CRB Kenya, Mtech Limited, Betway Kenya and Radio Africa Group, one of Kenya’s largest media houses.

These ventures have helped cement his reputation as a visionary businessman with a keen eye for emerging opportunities.

Role in capital markets

Kittony currently serves as chairman of the Nairobi Securities Exchange, where he has played a key role in promoting Kenya’s capital markets and strengthening investor confidence.

He has also served as a director at the Central Depository and Settlement Corporation, which manages the electronic clearing and settlement system for securities traded in Kenya.

His experience in capital markets and corporate governance has positioned him as an influential figure in Kenya’s financial sector.

Global business management

Kittony’s influence extends beyond Kenya’s borders.

He serves as vice chairman of the World Chambers Federation in Paris, where he represents Africa in shaping policies that affect chambers of commerce and private sector organisations worldwide.

He also advises IFHA, a private equity fund based in Amsterdam, offering strategic insights on investment opportunities and business growth in emerging markets.

Through these roles, Kittony has built strong networks within the global business community while promoting Africa as an attractive destination for trade and investment.

Recognition and national honours

In recognition of his contributions to business leadership and national development, Kittony was awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2019.

Beyond his corporate achievements, he is also known for mentoring young entrepreneurs and supporting initiatives aimed at empowering youth and expanding opportunities for small businesses.

In 2021, he was named among the top 25 most influential chairs of board impacting business.

Steering Kenya Airways

Kittony’s appointment as chairman of Kenya Airways comes as the airline continues to implement reforms aimed at restoring profitability and expanding its international network.

The national carrier has undergone significant restructuring in recent years as it seeks to recover from financial losses and reposition itself as a competitive player in global aviation.

Industry observers say Kittony’s experience in corporate governance, capital markets, and international business could play a key role in guiding the airline’s next phase of growth.

With extensive networks in business, finance, and global trade, his leadership will be closely watched as Kenya Airways works to strengthen operations, rebuild investor confidence, and expand its presence in international markets.

For the veteran businessman, the new role marks another chapter in a career defined by entrepreneurship, corporate leadership, and service to the business community.

In a past interview with the TheKnowledgeWarehouse (TKW), Kittony revealed that he loves to network.

As chairman of the KNCCI and a businessman, he has traveled to over 75 countries,” he said.

In the course of these travels, he has built a database in excess of 10,000+ contacts consisting of professionals, businesspersons, investors, and government officials.
