
Trade between Kenya and Iran has shown steady growth in recent years, with Kenya maintaining a trade surplus.
Data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics indicates that Kenya recorded a surplus of Sh4.4 billion in trade with Iran, reflecting stronger exports compared to imports. In 2020, Kenya imported goods worth Sh4.85 billion from Iran while exports stood at Sh1.63 billion.
Imports dropped to Sh3.7 billion in 2021 as exports rose slightly to Sh2.17 billion.
The trend shifted in 2022 when exports climbed to Sh5.87 billion, surpassing imports valued at Sh3.36 billion.
Exports continued to grow in 2023, reaching Sh6.73 billion against imports of Sh3.99 billion.
By 2024, exports further increased to Sh6.82 billion while imports declined to Sh2.45 billion.
The data highlights Kenya’s expanding export presence in the Middle East region, with trade ties strengthening over time.
Gulf countries are also among the top sources of diaspora remittances to Kenya.
