A candle lighting event is underway in Eldoret to honour the late Emurua Dikkir MP, Johana Ngeno.

The event is being hosted by North Rift artists, who said Ngeno was a strong supporter of their work.

“We are saddened by his death in the chopper accident, and we are here to remember his love for us and his work to uplift us in life,” said artist Jane Cheruto.

Hundreds of artists marched from Central Primary School through the town streets, singing songs in tribute to the late legislator.

They also mourned five others who died alongside Ngeno in the chopper crash in Nandi last Saturday.

The artists said they planned to join the family in sending off Ngeno on Friday at his home.

Leaders and residents in the region have praised the MP, popularly known as “Ngong,” for his support of youth and musicians.
