A multi-agency operation in Molo Town has led to the seizure of narcotics worth an estimated Sh1 million after a suspected drug trafficker abandoned his cargo and fled.

The operation was carried out on Monday night, March 2, 2026, at about 9:30 pm. It was a joint effort between officers from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse and the National Police Service based in Molo.

According to initial reports, the team was acting on specific intelligence about a notorious drug trafficker who was transporting substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa.

Officers laid an ambush in the Munju Area of Molo Town after receiving details about the vehicle being used. They later spotted a white Toyota Probox matching the description provided.

As officers moved in to intercept it, the driver made a dangerous U-turn in an attempt to escape. A brief chase followed.

During the pursuit, the suspect threw out three large sacks from the vehicle before speeding off into the night.

The officers recovered the sacks, which contained dry plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs. The items were escorted to Molo Police Station for safe custody and preliminary forensic examination.

Authorities established that the three sacks contained about 200 brooms of cannabis. Each broom has an estimated street value of Sh500, placing the total street value of the seized drugs at approximately Sh1 million.

The suspect remains at large. Police have launched a manhunt to arrest him. Further investigations and operations are ongoing in the area as authorities seek to dismantle the supply chain.

Following the operation, NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa commended members of the public for providing information that led to the bust.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to the members of the public who continue to play their rightful role in pointing out criminals within our communities,” said Omerikwa.

He described the seizure as proof that public cooperation is yielding results.

“This operation in Molo is a testament to the fact that the information provided by citizens is leading to successful operations and making our neighbourhoods safer,” he said.

Omerikwa reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to fighting substance abuse across the country.

“These enforcement efforts are ongoing and relentless. We are committed to ensuring that our communities remain safe from the harmful effects of narcotics and psychotropic substances,” he added.

He warned that the crackdown would continue.

“We will not relent in going after those who seek to profit from the destruction of our youth,” he said.

The latest seizure adds to ongoing enforcement efforts targeting drug trafficking networks. Authorities say they will sustain joint operations and intelligence-led crackdowns to curb the flow of narcotics and protect communities from the impact of substance abuse.
