President William Ruto has announced that the Government will oversee the funeral arrangements of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno and five others who died in a helicopter crash in Nandi County.
Speaking after consultations with leaders, the President said the State would extend support to all those who were on board the chopper.
"Yeah, when we had this conversation, we said all the people who accompanied Ngeno, including the pilot, we will extend government support to all of them, and we will oversee all the requirements that are needed for their descent, internment and burial,” President Ruto said.
Ng’eno was among six people who died when a helicopter crashed at Chepkiep in Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, on February 28, 2026.
The President said the Government would ensure a coordinated process to give the deceased a befitting send-off.
“So we will carry through that spirit, and we will hopefully, I think the committee will provide leadership on the mass that we will have, the joint mass between Ngeno and his staff, and then we can handle the pilot when the family tells us how they want that done,” he said.
He added that there would be coordination between Narok and Nairobi to ensure smooth planning.
“I did agree with the governor of Narok that he goes ahead to handle the matters in Narok as we deal with the matters here in Nairobi, so that this can come together seamlessly,” the President stated.
President Ruto also directed members of the ad hoc parliamentary committee to take charge of the process.
“So again, Melly and your team, you have our goodwill to coordinate the whole of this exercise for our brother Ngeno and all the other people concerned, and the good gentleman from OP will act as the liaison to make this process move as it should,” he said.
Earlier, the National Assembly constituted an ad hoc parliamentary committee to coordinate the late legislator's funeral arrangements.
In a statement, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula said the team would work closely with the family to organise and coordinate a befitting send-off.
“I have appointed you to the Ad Hoc Parliamentary Funeral Planning Committee to support and liaise with the family and coordinate a befitting send-off for the late Hon. Ng’eno,” the Speaker said in a letter to members of the committee.
The committee is chaired by Tinderet MP Julius Melly, with Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri serving as vice-chairperson. It comprises members from both the National Assembly and the Senate.
A representative of the family will also sit on the committee to ensure close coordination with relatives of the deceased.
The Clerk of the National Assembly has appointed a secretariat to provide administrative and logistical support.
President Ruto mourned Ng’eno as “a progressive and devoted servant of the people who worked tirelessly on behalf of the residents of Emurua Dikirr, Narok County.”
“He was focused, vocal, and fearless; a leader who stood firmly for justice and equity for all,” the President said.
He added that the late MP would be remembered for “the tangible progress achieved under his leadership and his exemplary commitment to promoting local talent, especially in music.”
Ng’eno will be buried on Friday, March 6.
