During an inspection tour of development projects in Dagoretti South, the President introduced the first-term legislator, popularly known as Jalang’o, and declared before residents: “Niko na mheshimiwa Jalang’o, seneta wa Nairobi 2027.”

The remark drew cheers from residents, with Jalang’o responding: “Vijana tuko hapo,” before taking the microphone to thank the President for visiting Dagoretti South and pledging his support.

Ruto’s endorsement signals a potential political contest with incumbent Senator Edwin Sifuna, who has taken a critical stance against the President and the Kenya Kwanza administration, as well as the ODM faction led by party leader Oburu Oginga.

It remains unclear which party ticket Jalang’o will seek in 2027.

The President began his tour by inspecting the ongoing construction of Mutuini Hospital, a 400-bed facility he said will be completed, fully equipped and handed over next month.

“We will complete and equip this 400-bed facility and hand it over next month to guarantee the people of Dagoretti South accessible, quality and affordable medical care,” Ruto said.

He later opened workshop blocks at PS Kinyanjui Technical Training Institute and commissioned a new tuition block at Kawangware Primary School, saying his administration is focused on expanding access to education and technical skills development.

Ruto also inspected the Riruta Modern Market and announced it will be officially commissioned in May to provide traders with a dignified and conducive working environment.

Addressing residents, Jalang’o praised the President’s development record in Nairobi.

“Hii mtaa ni yako sai. Tumetembea hii area mara mbili na kila wakati ukifika ni maendeleo. Asante sana kwa kazi unafanya Nairobi. Tunatembea na wewe mpaka dakika ya mwisho, hawa ni watu tayari wameamua,” he said.

In a further appeal, the Lang’ata MP added: “Mnipatie two term ya rais nione,” rallying support for Ruto’s re-election bid.

The event was also attended by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie, and nominated senators Tabitha Mutinda and Karen Nyamu.
