The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is scheduled to hold a Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting this morning amid reports of internal disagreements within the party.
Members of Parliament elected on the ODM ticket have been invited to attend the meeting at Parliament Buildings to “deliberate on key legislative matters, party positions on upcoming parliamentary business, and other issues of national importance.”
“Your presence and active participation are highly valued as we continue to strengthen our collective agenda and party unity,” reads the invite dated February 27, 2026 and signed by Minority Leader Junet Mohamed.
The meeting comes at a time when discussions around a possible coalition arrangement between ODM and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under President William Ruto have generated varied reactions within political circles.
Last week, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi and Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi were discharged from certain parliamentary committees in changes communicated by the Minority Leader.
Omondi ceased to serve in the Constitution Implementation and Oversight Committee, which he previously chaired. Kibagendi was removed from the Public Investments Committee on Governance and Education and replaced by new Kaspul MP Boyd Were.
Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga was moved from the Agriculture Committee to the Committee on Members' Services and Facilities.
“I am serving a warning. Anyone who will not adhere to the party position will relinquish their committee positions to lesser ones, so that they know that it is parties which reward people to positions,” Junet said during debate in Parliament.
Omondi stated that the House had “irregulars effected the changes without following due procedure as stipulated in the Constitution of Kenya and House Standing Orders.”
It remains unclear whether Omondi will attend today’s session in light of the recent developments.
Kibagendi, who was also affected by the committee changes, is currently unable to access Parliament precincts following a suspension by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
As a result, he is not in a position to attend the meeting.
Other leaders mentioned in recent political discussions include party Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who serves as the Minority Whip in the Senate. Any changes relating to his role would fall under the purview of the Senate.
Among those publicly associated with similar positions are Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo, Bomachoge Borabu MP Obadiah Barongo and Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo. Gisairo and Amisi were removed from the PG’s WhatsApp group.
On Tuesday, Ruth Odinga called for the dissolution of the Linda Ground and Linda Mwananchi factions, urging party members to work towards unity ahead of future political engagements.
“My stand has not changed; I want one strong, united ODM Party. We need to collapse ‘Linda Ground’ and ‘Linda Wananchi’ and whatever other faction out there into one formidable force,” she said in Kisumu.
