A group of residents in Eastleigh conducted rescue efforts on Tuesday afternoon to help people trapped in a commercial building engulfed in flames.
The fire broke out suddenly, sending thick smoke into the sky. With people reportedly stranded on the upper floors.
The residents quickly improvised a rope to pull individuals to safety. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Earlier, fire broke out at a commercial complex in Eastleigh, Nairobi County, on Tuesday, leaving many trapped and prompting rescue efforts.
This follows the January incident where fire broke out at a commercial building along Luthuli Avenue in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), near the Munyu Road junction, triggering panic among traders and pedestrians in the area.
The incident sent thick plumes of smoke billowing into the air as people fled the scene for safety.
Several businesses in the densely populated commercial zone were affected, though the full extent of the damage was not immediately clear.
Fire engines and emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene, with firefighters working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings.
The Kenya Red Cross confirmed the incident, saying its Red Cross Action Team (RCAT) had been activated to support emergency operations.
The incident came less than a week after a similar fire was reported along the same street. On January 6, a blaze engulfed a building housing several electronics shops, forcing the closure of businesses along Luthuli Avenue as police maintained a security presence to prevent looting.
That fire caused significant damage, disrupting operations on the busy street and drawing large crowds to the scene. Firefighters later managed to salvage some property, though the cause of the blaze was never established.
Authorities did not indicate whether the two incidents are related. Investigations into the latest fire are expected once the situation is fully brought under control.
