Kalenjin secular artists have passed their condolences to the family and the people of Emurua Dikirr following the death of area Member of Parliament Johana Ngeno, also known as Ngong'.

Led by Kapkatet-based musician Lorna Koech, the artists said news of Ngeno's death was received with shock and disbelief.

Koech, also known as 'Swag Lady', said the deceased was instrumental in nurturing local talent, including musicians, comedians and online content creators, among others.

She said through the famous Kalenjin Music Festival, an annual event bringing together all artists from the community, several talents have been unearthed while existing creatives have been mentored and inspired to greater levels.

Ngeno, together with four others and the pilot, perished on Saturday following a helicopter accident at Chepkiep, Mosop, Nandi county amid reported bad weather.

Media fraternity have also extended their condolences to the family and friends of Nick Koskey, a journalist attached to the late MP, who also perished in the ill-fated chopper crash.

Koskey, a budding media professional from Silibwet, Bomet county, worked in the communication department of the Bomet county government.

Ngeno was known to have been an advocate for the settlement of Mau Forest evictees. He also pushed for resolution regarding the disputed ownership of 6,000 hectares of land at Ang'ata Barikoi, an issue that has led to the loss of lives.

The bodies were taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and then moved on Sunday to Lee Funeral Home following orders from the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang'ula.
