
Leaders from across the political divide have paid glowing tribute to Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno following his death in a tragic helicopter crash in Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County on Saturday.
Ng’eno was among six people who perished in the accident after the aircraft they were travelling in went down and reportedly burst into flames.
The lawmaker and his aides were on board at the time of the crash, in an incident that has sent shockwaves across the country and plunged the nation into mourning.
In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said he was deeply saddened by the loss, describing Ng’eno as a courageous and committed leader.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to the families and friends of the six people who lost their lives in the tragic helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, among them, MP Johanna Ngeno of Emurua Dikirr Constituency,” Duale said.
“I had the privilege of serving alongside Hon. Ngeno in Parliament before my transition to the Cabinet, and I came to know him as a courageous voice for his constituents. His passing is a profound loss to his family, his constituents and the nation at large.”
The CS added: “During this painful time, may the bereaved families find strength in unity, comfort in faith and solace in the enduring memories of their loved ones.”
First Lady Rachel Ruto also mourned the legislator, describing the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy for the nation.
She extended her sympathies to the bereaved families during what she termed an incredibly difficult time, urging them to draw strength from faith and national solidarity.
Narok Governor Patrick ole Ntutu said he received news of Ng’eno’s passing with “profound shock and disbelief,” revealing that the late MP was not only a colleague in leadership but also a close family member.
“He was not only the duly elected representative of the people of Emurua Dikir but also a close family member. This loss has struck very close to home,” Ntutu said.
“Ngeno was a man whose character and commitment cannot easily be captured in words. He was deeply devoted to his work, tirelessly serving his constituents with dedication and passion. His unwavering commitment to the people he represented, as well as to his family, was evident in all that he did.
“He will be remembered for his steadfast service, strong sense of duty, and the profound impact he made in the lives of many.”
Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho expressed similar sentiments, saying he had received the news “with deep sorrow.”
“I have received with deep sorrow the tragic news of the passing on of Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johanna Ng’eno and five others who lost their lives in the helicopter crash today,” Joho said.
“In this moment of grief, we stand in solidarity with the bereaved families, praying that they find strength, comfort and courage to endure this immense loss.
“May the Almighty God grant eternal rest to Hon. Ngeno and the five others and may their souls rest in everlasting peace.”
Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah described the late MP as a devoted servant of the people.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Hon. Johanna Ng’eno, Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr, following a helicopter crash yesterday, February 28, 2026,” Omtatah said.
“We have lost a devoted servant of the people. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the people of Emurua Dikirr, and all who perished in the tragic crash.
“In faith, we commend his soul to the mercy of Almighty God. May the Lord grant him eternal rest, and may perpetual light shine upon him. May Christ comfort all who grieve.”
