MP Ng'eno's body, 5 others leave MTRH morgue for Lee Funeral Home

All the bodies of the six people who died in the helicopter crash in Nandi have been removed from the MTRH morgue to be flown to the Lee Funeral Home.

They have been identified as MP Johanah Ngeno, Robert Kipkoech Keter, Amos Kimwetich Rotich, Nicholas Kosgei, Capt George Were and Wycliffe Kiprotich Rono.

Were was the pilot when the plane came down in bad weather in Mosop Constituency.

Three governors and more than 20 MPs were present to escort the bodies from the MTRH morgue to the Eldoret International Airport for airlifting to Nairobi.

The governors included Samwel Ole Ntutu of Narok, Stephen Sang of Nandi and Jonathan Bii of Uasin Gishu.

Ntutu mourned the MP, whom he said was his in-law because he had married from the Ntutu family.

“We have lost a leader and a brother to me because he married from our family,” said Ntutu.

Before the bodies were removed from the morgue, the leaders addressed the media, calling for calm during investigations into the accident.

 “We also urge our pilots that due to the current bad weather, they should exercise good judgment and exercise caution to safeguard lives,” said Sang.

This came amid witness accounts that the pilot decided to fly again despite having made an emergency landing due to bad weather.

Sang said that although preliminary investigations indicated bad weather as the main cause of the accident, relevant authorities would give finer details.

The leaders condemned former DP Rigathi Gachagua for announcing the death of Ngeno at a rally even before the family was imformed

“As much as we are politicians, we need to be sensitive and avoid politicising such sensitive matters”, said Sang.

Ntutu said they were grateful to all those who had participated in assisting the family following the tragedy.

Tinderet MP Julius Melly, who is coordinating the transfer of the bodies, said they would all be preserved at the Lee Funeral Home.

“We will the vist the families to condole with them as we plan funerals in the coming days”, said Melly.

The bodies were placed in coffins and different hearses and moved to the airport.
