The tragedy has triggered outrage among Kenyans, with many questioning the safety standards and conduct of some public transport crews.

Authorities have since launched investigations into the matter as calls grow louder for stricter enforcement of traffic and passenger safety regulations.

A Painful Personal Memory

For Trudy, the incident reopened a deeply painful chapter in her own life.

The content creator revealed that she lost her mother in a road accident years ago while she was still a teenager. According to her, the driver involved in that incident allegedly fled the scene, and her family never received justice.

“They did the same thing. Although my mum wasn't pushed from the matatu, they hit her and ran away and we never got justice,” she shared.

Trudy explained that her family had attempted to pursue legal action at the time after obtaining the vehicle’s number plate. However, financial constraints made it impossible for them to continue with the case.

“You needed money. We didn’t have money,” she said, recalling how the driver allegedly disappeared without facing consequences.

Frustration Over Lack of Accountability

The travel vlogger admitted that the recent incident reignited her anger and frustration about what she sees as a pattern of negligence within parts of the transport industry.

She questioned how drivers and operators could continue working without facing serious consequences after fatal accidents.

“Anytime I see those buses, I just get so pissed off,” she said, expressing concern that some drivers may repeatedly escape accountability.

While acknowledging she is not a lawyer, Trudy said she felt compelled to use her platform to highlight the issue and advocate for justice for victims and their families.

Transport Operator Responds

Following the fatal incident, the transport company linked to the vehicle issued a public statement expressing condolences to the victim’s family.

In the statement, the company said it was deeply saddened by the loss of life and confirmed it was cooperating fully with authorities as investigations continue.

The operator added that it does not condone reckless or dangerous behaviour by crew members and promised to take appropriate action depending on the outcome of the inquiry.

Calls for Reform

Trudy concluded her message by urging policymakers and regulators to implement stronger laws that protect passengers and hold both drivers and operators accountable.

She also offered prayers and condolences to the family of the deceased.

“I hope the family that has lost their loved one gets justice,” she said.
