
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed a fatal aircraft accident involving an AS350 helicopter in Nandi County.
In a statement issued on February 28, 2026, the Authority said the helicopter, registration 5Y-DSB, crashed at Kabiet Sub-location in the Mosop area of Nandi Hills at approximately 1630hrs.
The aircraft was operating a flight from Endebes to Mosoriot at the time of the incident.
KCAA said there were six people on board. “The accident is reported to have been fatal; however, confirmation of casualties and identities will be communicated by the relevant authorities once the next of kin have been duly informed,” the statement read.
The aviation regulator said it has initiated procedures to support investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The probe will be conducted by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department.
“KCAA has initiated the necessary procedures to support the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department (AAID). Further details will be provided as more verified information becomes available,” the Authority said.
The regulator also conveyed its sympathies to those affected by the tragedy. “The Authority extends its sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of those affected,” said Director General Emile N. Arao.
Authorities are expected to release further information once investigations progress and families of the victims have been notified.
