
New cases of hypertension and diabetes have fluctuated but trended upward between 2020 and 2024, according to data from the Retirement Benefits Authority.
Newly diagnosed hypertension cases per 100,000 population rose from 34.54 in 2020 to 44.45 in 2021, dipped to 31.87 in 2022, then increased to 39.17 in 2023 and 45.32 in 2024.
Diabetes cases followed a similar pattern, moving from 13.74 in 2020 to 17.23 in 2021, easing to 15.48 in 2022 and 15.39 in 2023, before climbing to 22.95 in 2024.
The figures highlight the growing burden of non-communicable diseases linked to lifestyle and demographic changes.
