ODM acting secretary general Catherine Omanyo has introduced a new DJ, following the defection of party’s longtime DJ, Spider to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s faction.
In a social media post marked by a single declaration “Tuko na DJ (We have a DJ)", Omanyo confirmed the party’s refreshed entertainment lineup for upcoming rallies and events.
The message was accompanied by images of the new DJ standing beside equipment, signalling ODM’s readiness to maintain its grassroots appeal.
The caption, while brief, was widely shared across political circles online and interpreted as a symbolic effort to project unity and momentum.
ODM’s National Executive Council (NEC) controversially removed Sifuna from the secretary general’s post on February 11, a decision that has sparked legal and political battles.
Omanyo, who served as deputy secretary general, was then elevated to acting SG.
Competent DJs have historically been a staple at major ODM events, helping energise supporters and project a sense of unity.
Omanyo however made the post and did not name the new DJ.
The shift comes as Sifuna and his Linda Mwananchi faction seek to carve out a distinct identity within and beyond ODM, often staging rallies and grassroots engagements under their own banner.
In recent weeks, Sifuna has openly discussed his association with DJ Spider, describing the entertainer’s involvement in their campaigns.
“They want to give Spider one hell of an offer. I will not feel bad if they ‘steal him from me’, as long as they give him the money I am not giving him because he is a volunteer,” Sifuna said in one interview.
“The DJ came with us, you know we never steal because we are not thieves. It was his own decision to join us. We never pay so if they decide to give him a good amount then he will do the work.”
The Linda Mwananchi group represents a faction within ODM that has openly challenged some of the party’s central leadership decisions, including the direction of alliances with other political formations.
Sifuna’s faction has sometimes been characterised as more combative and distinct in its appeal to ordinary citizens, contrasting with the Linda Ground wing aligned with Oburu Oginga and Omanyo.
Oburu and his allies have signalled a willingness to broaden ODM’s reach and strategic options, including cooperation with other major political actors.
Meanwhile, Sifuna is fighting to retain his official status as ODM secretary general, with a tribunal hearing set to determine the legal standing of the NEC’s removal decision.
As Omanyo and her team roll out the updated entertainment lineup, supporters on social media response reflected the broader polarisation within the party.
One X user, Dante said, "Luo Politicians only good at organising disco and living lavish lifestyles themselves..zero development agenda.. tutafagia wote #SisiNdoSifuna"
"Madam SG, the more you try, the sillier you sound. Just stick to style, no need to copy others," another user Bossman said.
"Kindly heal, you are here posting some rookie DJs from who knows where, always cheapening the discussing at every turn," Jafwambogikeyo said.
Segera the Don said, "Sisi tunataka mkue na DJ ule wa Baba si DJ wa disko Matanga".
