YouVersion, the world’s most downloaded Bible app, has officially opened a regional hub in Kenya to support the growing momentum of Bible engagement across Africa.
The Hub was launched in Nairobi on February 23, 2026, marking a deepened commitment to partnerships with local churches, content creators, and ministry leaders who are amplifying African voices within the Bible App.
The launch event was graced by First Lady Rachel Ruto, who underscored the importance of faith in families and leadership. She emphasized that technology, when used intentionally, can be a powerful tool for discipleship rather than distraction.
“Establishment of this hub in Kenya reflects a deliberate and visionary commitment to advance global discipleship, to deepen bible engagement and to amplify local voices. This hub will strengthen faith formation within families and communities,” she said.

For Kenya, she said, the launch represents more than an institutional expansion.
“It reflects the nation’s enduring faith and commitment to Scripture,” she added.
Joseph Gachira, Kenya Hub Leader and host of the celebration, said the initiative is designed to strengthen Bible engagement, support discipleship efforts, and foster the creation of digital faith content tailored to African contexts.
“This Hub allows us to amplify African voices and ensure Scripture is experienced in ways that reflect our languages, cultures, and stories. We’re not importing a movement; we’re strengthening what God is already doing here,” he said.

Kenya’s strong church ecosystem, youthful population, and expanding digital connectivity have contributed significantly to this growth.
The Hub team comprises individuals who have lived and worked in the region for many years and are deeply rooted in local faith communities.
“This connection enables authentic partnerships with local churches, content creators, and ministry leaders who are shaping how Scripture reaches their communities,” Gachira noted.

These realities informed the development of Bible App Lite, a streamlined version of the app designed for limited phone storage and offline use. Since 2022, insights from African communities have guided its development, and innovations born from these contexts are now benefiting users worldwide who face similar constraints.
YouVersion Founder and CEO Bobby Gruenewald, who also spoke during the celebration, praised the spiritual momentum across the continent.
“The momentum we're seeing across Africa is remarkable. God is doing something powerful through the local churches, ministries, and leaders who are passionate about His Word. We're so grateful to have Joseph and his team leading the YouVersion Kenya Hub. They bring deep relationships, cultural understanding, and authentic connections that will help ensure millions of Africans can engage with Scripture through the Bible App in ways that truly resonate with each of them,” he said.
Through the Bible App, users across Africa can access Scripture in nearly 2,400 languages, including Swahili, Afrikaans, Xhosa, and Zulu, enabling people to engage with the Bible in their heart language.
This commitment extends to younger audiences as well. Bible App for Kids is available in Afrikaans and Swahili, offering interactive animations and engaging activities that help children connect with Scripture in culturally relevant ways.
All of YouVersion’s apps are free to download and use, removing financial barriers and broadening access to God’s Word across the continent.
