President William Ruto has expressed confidence that his development record will earn him a second term, saying the 2027 contest will be decided on performance rather than political rhetoric.
Speaking during a Sunday service at Jesus Christ Compassion Ministry (JCM) Church in Ruiru, the President said he was ready to face his competitors and present his achievements to voters.
He challenged the opposition to do the same instead of focusing on ‘hatred, insults, incitement and drama.’
“Aren’t you the electorate? Won’t everybody be judged by their own work? And people who have not worked will be sent home?” he posed.
Ruto said his administration has rolled out programmes that have stabilised the economy and improved livelihoods.
He cited the Affordable Housing Programme, expansion of road infrastructure, reforms in the health sector through the Social Health Authority, and interventions in agriculture.
“No citizen will give anyone a vote because of incitement, hatred, or drama. A country is not built on empty rhetoric. It is changed by solid plans and sound policies,” he said.
He reiterated that his bottom-up economic model was a deliberate strategy to uplift small-scale traders and ordinary Kenyans, not a campaign slogan as critics had claimed.
“We told our mothers that where they are working, we shall build a good place for them to do business,” he said, adding that many had initially dismissed the idea as unrealistic.
Ruto faces mounting pressure from an emerging united opposition that has vowed to make him a one-term president.
However, he dismissed the growing political alliances against him, maintaining that his performance in office would ultimately determine the outcome.
“Even in politics, in 2027, won’t everybody come with the work they have done? I will come with the work I have done,” he said, adding that leaders, like all individuals, would be judged on their actions.
He urged his opponents to focus on presenting alternative policies and development plans instead of engaging in personal attacks.
The church service was attended by ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa and several Kiambu leaders led by Governor Kimani Wamatangi, as well as Members of Parliament and MCAs.
The leaders rallied behind the President and praised his administration’s development record, pledging to support his re-election bid.
Kabogo said the progress made in the last three years was unmatched and urged residents to back Ruto for a second term.
“The work that Ruto has done in three years, no other President has ever done,” he said.
Ichung’wa echoed the sentiments, attributing what he described as accelerated development since 2022 to sound policies and firm leadership.
“We will stand with you to the end. We will fight for you until you secure a second term,” Ichung’wa said.
As political activity begins to intensify ahead of 2027, Ruto signalled that his campaign will centre on showcasing completed projects and ongoing reforms, while challenging his rivals to outline their own development agenda.
