Migori Youth coach says loss against Gucha Stars a minor setback in their promotion push

Migori Youth coach Sammy Owano says Sunday’s 2-0 loss against Gucha Stars is a minor setback in their bid to qualify for the SportPesa League.

Gucha Stars upset Migori Youth 2-0 at Gusii Stadium,  thanks to Steve Odongo and Ronny Onyango's strikes in either half of the entertaining game.

Owano said, “We have 18 games to go. We are firmly in the race for SportPesa League qualification. We must show character in our upcoming games.  In football, there are three outcomes, and the result didn’t go our way today.”

He said they have now shifted their focus to their next encounter against Darajani Gogo at Awendo Green Stadium on Saturday. “The game against Darajani Gogo is a must-win for us. I expect to see positives in the game against Darajani Gogo,” he remarked.

Migori Youth dropped to second on the National Super League (NSL) table following Mombasa United’s 2-1 win against Darajani Gogo on Saturday. Mombasa United moved to 43 points while Migori Youtha are on 40 points. The Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) are third but were not in action this weekend.

Reacting to their second win of the second leg, Gucha Stars coach Sammy Okoth said, “We have started the second leg the way we wanted. Two wins out of two are a morale booster for the boys. The players are playing as a team, and these wins will give them confidence.”

Okoth said the newly signed players have added fresh impetus to the team. “Since they came in, they have added something positive to the team. I’m still building this team,” remarked the tactician.

Elsewhere, Soy United suffered their first loss at home after succumbing to a 1-0 loss against visiting Naivas FC at Eldoret Showground, while Luanda Villa’s poor form continued after they lost 1-0 against FC Talanta. On Saturday, Nairobi City Stars beat Fortune Sacco 3-2 in a five-goal thriller.
