Amid the deputy president debacle between ODM and UDA in the run-up to the 2027 election, UDA-aligned leaders from the Mt Kenya region have continued to rally behind Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, saying he remains suitable to retain the seat.
Chinga MCA and UDA party NEC member Kiruga Thuku rallied support for Kindiki, saying his suitability is unmatched and that he is best placed to continue deputising President William Ruto.
Speaking during an interview on Gukena FM, the ward representative praised Kindiki, describing him as development-oriented and politically grounded.
"I can only compare Kindiki to former president Mwai Kibaki, who was my MP, whom I also had the pleasure to serve as a youth. Kindiki is diplomatic and settles matters respectfully. He is development-oriented and knows how to sow the seed of unity," he said.
The MCA called on ODM to explore other political seats, noting that the two top seats already have candidates if both parties are to enter into a pre-election agreement.
He expressed confidence that there would be a consensus and that talks would be productive.
Additionally, the 2027 Othaya parliamentary aspirant said the government is large enough to accommodate individuals from both political divides.
“In a coalition, people discuss, and I hope that we will have a general consusus but on those two seats, there is a consensus; they remain that way. The government is big. The others will get it; if you don't get this, you get the other," he said.
He also expressed confidence in Kindiki taking over the reins of power after President William Ruto.
“Im confident that Ruto will go for two terms and once done, Kindiki is the most suitable candidate to take over from him.”
Amid political shifts following the formation of other political parties, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP, Kiruga defended continued support for the Ruto administration.
He said Mt Kenya significantly contributed to the formation of the current government and that the administration has been resourceful to the region.
"Most of us as leaders from the Mount Kenya region, we decided to stick with President Ruto because we campaigned for his government, he won, and we have been supporting him to deliver for our people, and the development is tangible and evident,” he said.
“We have seen a lot of development taking place across the country. All those roads that the Jubilee government abandoned, they are being done, and that is the trajectory we want to continue with,” he added.
