India AI Summit/HANDOUT

Ambassador Philip Thigo, Kenya’s Special Envoy on Technology, participated in the High-Level Segment of the India AI Action Summit in New Delhi, where leading companies in artificial intelligence endorsed the New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments.

Speaking at the summit, Ambassador Thigo highlighted the importance of moving from broad principles to measurable action in AI governance.

“In a landscape moving faster than most governance frameworks can track, this kind of alignment around measurable impact — not just aspirational principles — is meaningful,” he said.

He emphasised four key directions emerging from the summit: analysing real-world AI usage at scale, building anonymised aggregate data to map AI diffusion across economies, grounding workforce and education policy in evidence rather than assumptions, and creating longitudinal baselines to track adoption, opportunity, and impact over time.

“The shift that matters is publishing statistical insights on AI usage [which] moves the conversation from rhetoric to accountability — from what AI should do, to what it is doing to productivity, labour markets, and the nature of work itself," Ambassador Thigo said.
