Renowned Kenyan dancer Moya Davidhas addressed online discussions surrounding his noticeable weight gain, explaining that the changes in his physique were tied to both lifestyle shifts and recovery from an accident.
The entertainer, famous for his surprise dance performances, recently drew attention after sharing a video that showed a fuller frame. While some fans reacted humorously, others speculated about the cause — linking it to his success, lifestyle, or training routines.
‘When the Money Comes, So Does the Body’
In an interview with Dr Ofweneke on TV47, Moya said the public reaction did not bother him.
“It did not affect me in any way because, one, when the money comes, so does the body,” he remarked lightheartedly.

He then revealed that there was more behind the transformation. Moya disclosed that he was involved in a serious accident with his newly purchased Subaru, sustaining injuries to his head and right knee. The incident forced him to step away from the spotlight for a period.
“There was a time I disappeared. I was in hospital, but there are things I do not post. I just took a break,” he explained.
Recovery Period and Gradual Weight Gain
Moya noted that his performances often require him to kneel during surprise moments — something he was unable to do while recovering from his knee injury. As a result, he paused new productions and shared previously recorded content.
“My right knee was still hurting, and I could not do the surprises for some time,” he said.
During recovery, he spent extended time at home with limited physical activity. Regular home-cooked meals, including soup, contributed to gradual weight gain — something he admitted he did not immediately notice until fans began pointing it out.
He has since recovered and resumed his normal routine.
New Fitness Journey
The conversation about his physique dates back to October last year, when Moya shared one of his signature dance videos online. Instead of the usual praise, some followers shifted focus to his changing appearance.
While many comments were playful, others were blunt. Staying true to his humorous personality, Moya responded with jokes, even laughing at remarks about his cheeks and teasing suggestions about family planning.
Amid the online chatter, one loyal supporter, Veronicah Wairimu Kioi, decided to act. She paid KSh 31,700 to cover his gym membership, encouraging him to begin a structured fitness journey.
Marking the milestone, Moya posted a photo from his first gym session, expressing gratitude and joking that he now had no excuse not to commit.
