Detectives are combing parts of Luanda, Vihiga County, after a 44-year-old woman was shot dead in a robbery incident in the area.

Police said Beverline Afwande operated an M-Pesa shop and was waylaid and fatally shot while riding a motorcycle to her home on Friday, February 13, 2026.

The assailants grabbed a bag she was carrying, which contained an unknown amount of money, and fled the scene.

The incident is the latest in a series of violent robberies in the area, amid calls for action to address the growing menace.

Police said the victim was heading home on a motorcycle when she was ambushed by three men on another motorcycle and shot in the chest.

She was rushed to Coptic Mission Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Senior police officers visited the scene as part of investigations into the shooting, and the body was moved to the mortuary.

A spent cartridge was recovered at the scene and taken for ballistic examination as police intensified the search for the assailants.

A team of detectives visited the scene as others combed the area in a hunt for the gang behind the attack.

In Butere, kakamega County, a 26-year-old man, Brian Onyango, died in hospital after being assaulted by unknown people.

Police said the assault occurred on February 13 in the Sofia area and that the motive was not immediately known.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures. Police said they were pursuing the assailants.

In Siaya Town, police said they were hunting for a suspect who attacked a boda boda rider and robbed him of his motorcycle. The rider sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Police said such incidents have been on the rise in the region as investigations continue.

Officers have advised members of the public to cooperate with attackers for their safety during such incidents.

Police investigations show that most stolen motorcycles are refurbished and sold to unsuspecting buyers elsewhere.

In Kapsabet, in the Chesumei area of Nandi County, a 35-year-old woman, Irene Jepkirui, was found dead in her home in a suspected murder.

Police said the body had visible injuries on the thighs and that she is believed to have been assaulted, leading to her death. Her husband was detained pending further investigations, and the body was moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.

Elsewhere, detectives are investigating the murder of two people whose bodies were found separately in Kisii County.

The first incident occurred in Motonto, Suneka area, where the body of Agnes Mokua, 73, was found in her house. Police said she had multiple injuries when the body was discovered on February 13 and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Police said they suspect she was fatally attacked either inside her house or elsewhere and later brought back, as the injuries to her head, legs, and hands were consistent with an assault.

In Gesure village, Itumbe, Kisii County, the body of a man was found by the roadside along the Itibo–Nyagesa road.

Police said the man appeared to have been killed elsewhere and dumped at the scene by unknown assailants.

Residents were unable to identify the man, and the body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and an autopsy.

Police said the body had visible bruises at the time it was discovered.
