A pro-business lobby within the ruling UDA coalition has drawn a hard political line, declaring the Deputy President’s seat “non-negotiable” amid rising coalition intrigues ahead of the 2027 General Election.

As succession talk intensifies the National Chairman of the UDA Wanabiashara Caucus, Francis Mbogo, maintained that the position currently held by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is not subject to backroom deals despite mounting speculation of alliance reshuffles.

“The Deputy President’s position remains firmly held and is not available for negotiation,” he declared.

Mbogo dismissed what he termed political maneuvers by the Orange Democratic Movement and its allies, saying coalition realignments being floated in political circles would not change the current balance of power within President William Ruto’s administration.

The statement comes just days after ODM backtracked on their initial stand, where they had indicated that they were not interested in the position.

Against this backdrop, Mbogo said the caucus would not entertain any moves aimed at destabilising the presidency’s power structure.

The chairperson affirmed that the incumbent Deputy President, Kithure Kindiki, is the bona fide holder of the office and continues to enjoy strong support.

The caucus now holds that jointly with Warembo na Fire and like-minded stakeholders remain united and focused on safeguarding stability, enterprise growth and national development.

“The focus must remain on service delivery, empowering businesses and strengthening the economy not premature political distractions,” he added.

Mbogo said the group would mobilise business owners nationwide to defend what it described as the Kenya Kwanza administration’s development agenda, citing ongoing infrastructure projects, digital economy initiatives and support for small enterprises.

On Sunday evening, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said the Orange Democratic Movement Party has no chance in the fight for his seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.

While weighing in on ODM party leader Oburu Oginga's assertion that they were eying the deputy president seat, Prof Kindiki said he would not relinquish his position for anyone.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has also lashed at ODM, holding that Deputy President’s position is not up for negotiation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The caucus maintained that it will continue mobilizing its members countrywide to protect its political interests while championing unity and economic transformation.
