The latest forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department indicates that Nairobi and the Central Highlands will experience a mix of cloudy conditions and sunny intervals

Showers and thunderstorms are expected in several parts of the country on Monday afternoon, following morning rains in parts of Kisumu, Kakamega, Eldoret and neighbouring western counties.

The latest forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department indicates that Nairobi and the Central Highlands will experience a mix of cloudy conditions and sunny intervals from mid-morning.

The weather is expected to build up to afternoon showers and thunderstorms in several areas within the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, including Kisii, Kericho, Kisumu, Kakamega, Narok, Nakuru, Kitale and Eldoret.

North-eastern and north-western regions such as Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera, as well as the coastal region, will remain mostly sunny throughout the day. Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties are forecast to experience partly cloudy conditions at night.

Night showers are likely in a few areas across the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.

Counties expected to be affected include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori and Narok.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, sunny intervals and afternoon showers are expected in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Tharaka-Nithi, Nyeri, Meru, Embu, Machakos, Makindu and Nairobi.

These areas will experience partly cloudy conditions at night, with a possibility of showers.

The weatherman said sunny intervals are expected during the day over the south-eastern lowlands, covering Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta, as well as parts of Tana River County.

Maximum daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C are expected in several parts of the country, including the Coast, the south-eastern lowlands, north-eastern and north-western Kenya.

Lodwar is forecast to record the highest maximum temperature at 38°C, followed by Wajir and Mandera at 37°C each.

Wajir and Mombasa are expected to register the highest minimum night-time temperature at 24°C.

Minimum night-time temperatures are likely to fall below 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and areas near Mt Kilimanjaro.

In Nairobi, temperatures are expected to range between a maximum of 31°C and a minimum of 12°C.

Mombasa will record a maximum of 34°C, Voi 36°C, while Kakamega, Nyeri, Meru, Machakos and Narok will each register 30°C.

Thika, Nakuru, Kisumu, Kitui and Kitale are forecast to record maximum temperatures of 32°C.
