A 25-year-old Kenyan man has turned heads with a bold personal statement — a tattoo of Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino inked across his back.
Marcelo Bahati told Mpasho journalist Gabriel Sironka that his decision was driven by admiration for what he describes as Owino’s “good work to the people” and “true leadership.” “Namtambua sana Babu,” Bahati said in an exclusive interview, identifying the lawmaker as the only politician whose leadership he genuinely believes in.

Bahati paid KSh 25,000 for the tattoo and said he is following a one-month course of daily medications prescribed to care for the wound. He added that the decision was his alone, though his family — including his spouse and their child — supported his admiration for the MP.

“My family understands why I did this,” Bahati said. “It’s personal, and I believe in the work he is doing for ordinary Kenyans.”

Owino’s Political Profile
Babu Owino, formally Paul Ongili Owino, represents Embakasi East Constituency in Nairobi. A prominent and often polarising figure in national politics, he rose from student leadership into the national arena, first winning his parliamentary seat in 2017 on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket and securing re-election in 2022.

Research firms such as Infotrak and Politrack Africa have, at various times, placed Owino among the higher-performing Members of Parliament in the country, based on performance surveys.ALSO READ: Babu Owino’s Rallying Cry: Why 2027 Must Be a Revolution of Ideas and Jobs
In May 2025, Owino was admitted to the Roll of Advocates of the High Court of Kenya after completing his legal qualifications. Upon admission, he pledged that many of his legal cases would be handled pro bono, with priority given to those unable to afford representation.

Voice on Governance and Accountability
As a legislator, Owino has been outspoken on governance issues. He has raised concerns about alleged misuse of public funds in Nairobi County, particularly claiming that billions were lost to purported fake garbage collection schemes — a matter widely reported in Kenyan media.
He has also been vocal nationally, critiquing government policy and championing youth empowerment and accountability.
