At the forefront is India, which maintains the world’s largest diaspora with over 18.5 million citizens living abroad. While this is a massive figure, it represents only about 1.2% of its vast population of 1.45 billion.

China follows a similar trajectory, with 11.7 million emigrants, also a small fraction relative to its 1.4 billion residents.

In contrast, countries facing severe internal conflict or economic collapse show much higher rates of departure relative to their total size.

Ukraine and Syria are primary examples; with 9.7 million and 8.9 million emigrants, respectively, a staggering portion of their populations has been displaced.

For Syria, nearly one-third of its total population of 24.6 million now lives outside its borders.

Similarly, Venezuela has seen over 8.3 million people leave a population of roughly 28 million, driven by prolonged socio-economic crises.
