Presidential hopeful Fred Matiang’i has started an aggressive process of expanding Jubilee Party’s grassroots presence with planned opening of offices across the country.
Matiang’i will today be in Nakuru county at the 58 roundabout where he will open a regional office as well as hold grassroots meetings with party supporters.
The deputy party leader and presidential hopeful will then open other offices in Nyandarua, Murang’a, Nyamira and Kisii before the end of this month and later visit other regions.
“The Nakuru event will be the beginning before we head to other regions,” Jubilee executive director Dan Mwangi told the Star.
The party relocated its headquarters from Nairobi’s Pangani area to off Mandera Road, in Kileleshwa.
Nairobi will serve as a hub for strengthening county, constituency and ward-level offices.
Jubilee recently made leadership changes, appointing former Narok North MP Moitalel ole Kenta as its new secretary general.
Kenta is now tasked to lead in restructuring and strengthening the party’s grassroots, seeking to position itself for next year’s general election.
Speaking in Magombo, Nyamira county a week ago, Matiang’i said he will return to his home area on February 19 to open party offices.
“We have already cleaned our house and ready to move in. I will be back here on the 19th to open the party offices,” he said at the home of Justice Stephen Riechi when he went to condole him after the judge lost his mother.
Jubilee, which won the 2017 presidential election under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, says it will also launch an aggressive recruitment of members in all the 47 counties as Matiang’i eyes the joint United Opposition ticket to take on President William Ruto in next year’s polls.
Last month, the party appointed ex-SG Jeremiah Kioni as its deputy party leader (operations) as part of a sweeping leadership reorganisation aimed at strengthening the party ahead of 2027.
The changes also saw Zack Kinuthia named deputy secretary general while Yassin Noor Haji will serve as national organising secretary as Vincent Kimoki assumes the role of chairperson.
