The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has distanced itself from activities and statements associated with Oketch Salah, saying any engagements undertaken by him are strictly in his personal capacity and do not represent or bind the party.

In a statement issued by the party’s national chairperson, Gladys Wanga, ODM said it had found it necessary to clarify its position following actions and engagements linked to Salah that had been associated with the party in public discourse.

The party emphasised that it had not sanctioned any such activities and that Salah does not speak or act on behalf of ODM.

"The Orange Democratic Movement wishes to clarify that any activities, statements, or engagements undertaken by Oketch Salah are carried out strictly in his personal capacity and do not represent or bind the Orange Democratic Movement in any way," the statement read.

ODM stressed that all official party activities, programmes, and engagements must be channelled through the party secretariat and undertaken with the approval and guidance of the party leadership, headed by Oburu Odinga. Decisions and actions taken in the party’s name must follow established internal processes.

The party cautioned grassroots leaders and members against organising or conducting activities in the party’s name without prior consultation and approval from the leadership.

"Grassroots leaders, members, and supporters are therefore advised that no activities should be organised or conducted in the name of ODM without prior consultation and approval from the party leadership and the secretariat," the statement added.

ODM said it remains committed to order, discipline, and structured engagement in the pursuit of its political objectives.

Businessman and political figure Oketch Salah has, in the recent past, become increasingly outspoken on matters touching on the Orange Democratic Movement, drawing public attention and debate within the party’s ranks.

His remarks gained particular prominence when he made claims about private conversations he allegedly held with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, including assertions about Raila’s views on internal party affairs and the future political direction of ODM. Those claims were disputed by members of the Odinga family and senior ODM officials.
