The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has appointed Dennis Gicheru, the federation’s Head of Legal Affairs, as the Acting General Secretary/CEO, with the appointment taking effect immediately.

Gicheru will serve in the role pending the recruitment of a permanent office holder, the federation said.

FKF said Gicheru’s appointment is intended to ensure continuity in the federation’s operations while the recruitment process for a permanent CEO is underway.

As acting CEO, he will oversee day-to-day operations and help maintain the federation’s programmes without disruption.

The office has experienced significant turnover since late 2024, with a series of resignations and leadership disputes affecting the federation’s management.

The instability began on October 8, 2024, when Barry Otieno resigned after a five-year tenure to contest the FKF presidency in elections held on December 7 that year, leaving a leadership gap at the secretariat.

Patrick Korir was subsequently appointed as interim General Secretary/CEO but resigned on February 5, 2025.

Former defender Harold Ndege then assumed the position, though his tenure encountered internal challenges.

Reports emerged of disagreements within the federation’s leadership.

Some National Executive Committee (NEC) members reportedly advocated for a negotiated resolution rather than an outright dismissal.
