Kakamega Homeboyz Football Club has announced the death of Silas Abungana, describing the loss as devastating.
In a public statement, the club said it is deeply devastated by the untimely demise of Silas Abungana.
The club confirmed that Silas died a few minutes before midnight on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, while receiving treatment at Kakamega County General Hospital.
According to the statement, he succumbed to head injuries sustained during an attack on Tuesday, February 3 night.
The club called for understanding during the mourning period.
It stated, “During this incredibly difficult time, we respectfully request privacy for Silas’ family, teammates, friends, and club officials as we come to terms with this unimaginable loss.”
The management added that the club will issue further communication in due course.
The statement ended with a brief tribute: “Rest in Peace, Silas.”
News of the death drew emotional reactions from supporters and members of the public online.
Enock, using the handle @I_am_mutoro, wrote, “So unfortunate!! I was on stand's on Saturday watching you as you display nice football. Today you are no more to be seen. Go! well Silas.”
Madangu (@RMadangu) shared a prayer, saying, “Raha ya milele umwangazie eeh Mungu, apumzike kwa amani. Amina.”
Mercy Khahukani (@Khahu_kani) also sent condolences, writing, “Poleni sana, May God rest his soul in eternal peace.”
Kakamega Homeboyz FC has not released further details but indicated more communication will follow as the club and family mourn the loss.
