
The latest global rankings for computer science universities have been released for 2026, highlighting institutions with exceptional performance in teaching, research, and innovation.
Leading the list is the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, scoring 97.7, followed closely by its historic rival, the University of Cambridge, with a score of 97.1. Both universities continue to demonstrate outstanding research output and academic excellence, maintaining their positions at the forefront of global computer science education.
Switzerland’s ETH Zurich claims third place with a score of 96.3, reflecting its strong emphasis on technology and applied research.
In the United States, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) scored 96.2, closely followed by Princeton University at 96.1, Stanford University at 95.9, and Carnegie Mellon University at 95.5.
These institutions are recognised for their cutting-edge research, innovative curricula, and strong industry connections that equip graduates with critical skills for the global tech sector.
Rounding out the top ten are Harvard University (93.8) and the United Kingdom’s Imperial College London (93.5), along with Peking University in China (93.2), highlighting the growing influence of Asian institutions in the global computer science arena.
The rankings are based on five core areas: teaching, research, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.
