A crowd in Kaviru's cancer walk challenge.

Musician Biez Kaviru has drawn a huge number of supporters as he closes in on his 170-kilometre walk to petition President William Ruto to declare cancer a national disaster.

On Tuesday, Kaviru had reached Mlolongo remaining with less than 20km to reach to statehouse.

Ordinary citizens, cancer survivors, youth groups and motorists joined in encouragement, transforming the once-solitary journey into a mass movement.

A major boost came from Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr, who demonstrated compassion by dispatching medics and an ambulance from Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital to attend to Kaviru and his team.

The medical personnel provided health checks and ensured the activist’s wellbeing as he pushed forward with the demanding journey.

Earlier, the same medical team had conducted a health assessment on Kaviru at Kathome in Machakos county, a timely intervention that ensured his safety and allowed him to continue without risking his health.

Kaviru’s mission seeks to pressure the government to treat cancer with the same urgency it uses to deal with floods, droughts and pandemics.

He argues that declaring it a national disaster would unlock emergency funding, strengthen policies, expand awareness campaigns, improve access to treatment and make care more affordable for all Kenyans.

On social media, Kenyans have expressed support to Kaviru, with many praising praising his courage, resilience and selflessness using the #CancerFighter.

Some shared personal stories of loved ones lost to cancer, calling on leaders to listen and act.

As Kaviru approaches State House with renewed strength and a growing crowd behind him, the message is becoming impossible to ignore the fight against cancer in Kenya is no longer an individual battle, but a collective national struggle demanding urgent action.
