Tanzanian forward Ibrahim Joshua/HANDOUTSportPesa League side Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere has welcomed the return of Tanzania striker Ibrahim Joshua, expressing confidence that the burly forward will add much-needed depth to his attacking options as the season reaches a critical stage.
Joshua has rejoined the brewers for a second stint after spending a season and a half in Tanzania. He has signed a six-month deal that will keep him at the club until the end of the current campaign. Tusker are ninth on the log with 28 points, 12 behind leaders Gor Mahia.
Okere believes Joshua’s familiarity with the club and his physical presence will provide Tusker with tactical variety in the final stretch of the season.
“We are getting into the business end of the season, and the matches will only get tougher,” said Okere.
“We need depth in every department, and Ibrahim’s return is a big boost for us. He understands the culture of this club, knows what it means to wear this badge and brings a different dimension to our attack. That variation will be very important for us,” he added.
Joshua says he returns to Ruaraka with a strong sense of purpose, describing his comeback as a chance to complete “unfinished business.”
"When I left, I felt I still owed the club a great deal,” said the striker. “I was coming off a difficult injury period, and the club stood by me and supported me. Now that I’m back, my ambition is to repay the faith they showed in me. I’m ready to work hard and see it through. Above all, my goal is to help take the club back to the top.”
The Tanzania international also spoke warmly of settling back into familiar surroundings.
“I am happy to be back at a place I call home. Even though there are many new faces, I have felt welcome from the first day of training. The few teammates I worked with before have made the transition much easier,” he said.
Joshua previously spent two seasons at Tusker, making an immediate impact in his debut campaign after scoring 12 goals to emerge as one of the club’s key attacking outlets.
His second season, however, was disrupted by a knee injury that ruled him out for a significant period, limiting his overall contribution.
He left at the end of the 2023/24 season and returned to Tanzania, where he featured for KenGold and Namungo SC.
Tusker will hope Joshua’s return provides the cutting edge they need as they push for silverware in the closing stages of the season.
