Kibera Black Stars players quench their thirst at Gusii Stadium/ANGWENYI GICHANA

Kibera Black Stars coach Idd Badi believes they are still in the SportPesa League qualification race.  “You cannot write us off yet. We are firmly in the race,” said Badi.

He said, despite the team dropping to eighth position, he can still guide the team to a top-three finish, which will guarantee the team a slot in the Kenya Premier League next season. Kibera Black Stars are one of the longest-serving clubs in the National Super League (NSL).

“We wanted to be top three at the end of the first leg, but we have not achieved that. However, we are not worried. The next five to seven games will determine our season. Our margin and the top three teams is less than 10 points,” noted the tactician.

He added, “The first leg has been competitive. In the second leg, we want to pick maximum points at home and at least a draw on the road."

Kibera will conclude the first leg games on Sunday against former FKF Premier League side, Vihiga United, at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu.

Vihiga United are at the bottom of the table with nine points. Kibera Black Stars are eighth in the second-tier league with 27 points from 18 games. They have won eight games, drawn three, and lost seven.

Badi said he has beefed up the team’s attack by signing experienced forward Donald Ange from Mathare United, Teddy Osoko (Tusker), Raydon Munane (KCB), Garnet Otieno (Michael Olunga Foundation Academy), and Byron Opiyo (1000 Street FC).

“Attacking has been our problem. That’s why we have brought in Ange to lead our attack. He is an experienced forward, and I believe he will sort out our problems in front of the goal,” Badi remarked.

He added: “This transfer window has helped us address the weaknesses we identified during the first. The new players will boost the chances of our maiden appearance in the top-tier league.”
