Harambee Starlets head coach Beldine Odemba/ HARAMBEE STARLETS

Harambee Starlets head coach Beldine Odemba is placing her faith in locally based talent as Kenya prepares for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to kick off on March 17 in Morocco.

Odemba has called up a locally based squad for a mini-camp running from February 1- 6, allowing the technical bench to assess players from top Kenyan clubs, including Kenya Police Bullets, Vihiga Queens, Ulinzi Starlets, Trinity Starlets, Kibera Soccer Women, Bungoma Queens, Kayole Starlets, and Shabana Starlets.

The week-long camp aims to identify standout performers who could be added to the WAFCON provisional squad ahead of the main residential camp beginning on February 15.

“We have followed the leagues, attended matches, and monitored consistency all season. This mini-camp allows us to see how players fit into the team under a structured environment,” Odemba said.

The squad features a strong core from Kenya Police Bullets and Trinity Starlets, each contributing four players, while Ulinzi Starlets provide three.

Veteran goalkeeper Annedy Kundu, midfield dynamo Medina Abubakar, and forward Faith Mboya lead the charge, complemented by Trinity’s Juliet Adhiambo, Elizabeth Muteshi, Mercyline Mejor, and Centrine Ngasi, adding depth and experience.

Kenya secured WAFCON qualification with a 4-1 aggregate victory over Gambia, marking a return to the continental stage after a decade-long absence.

In the official draw, the Starlets were placed in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Senegal, and Algeria, a competitive pool that will test Kenya’s tactical flexibility and resilience. The group stage opens against Morocco, followed by fixtures against Senegal and Algeria.

Beyond results, the Starlets carry the national hopes of re-establishing Kenya among Africa’s top women’s teams.
