Police in Kakamega county have arrested a couple for questioning over the alleged murder of their nine-year-old daughter in Eshiabwali village in Khwisero constituency.

The girl’s body was exhumed from a shallow grave outside the couple’s home on Monday. She reportedly died on Saturday with the couple alleged to have kept the body at home before burying it while wrapped in a cloth.

The suspects were arrested from their hideout by the river from where they led police officers to the grave.

The husband claimed the girl died after being hit by a stone. He claimed she had failed to report the matter to her parents out of fear.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Western Regional police boss Issa Mohamud said they will deliver justice for the Grade Six pupil.

Elsewhere, in Kaptagat, Elgeyo Marakwet County, Mathew Kiptoo, 45, was found dead on the roadside. The cause of death is under investigation, and the body was moved to the mortuary for autopsy.
