
The Judicial Service Commission has announced a vacancy for the position of deputy director for research and policy as part of its latest recruitment drive.
The commission, which is established under Article 171 of the constitution, is mandated to promote judicial independence, strengthen accountability and support efficient and transparent administration of justice.
The Tuesday notice says JSC is seeking one qualified candidate to fill the senior leadership role.
The successful applicant will be responsible for steering research, policy development and institutional reforms that guide the Judiciary’s long-term planning and service delivery.

All applications must be submitted by February 16 at 5 pm.
JSC said only shortlisted and successful candidates will be contacted. It also warned that canvassing would result in automatic disqualification.
The commission said it is an equal opportunity employer that selects candidates on merit through open and fair competition.
It encouraged qualified individuals from a wide range of backgrounds to apply. JSC also reminded applicants that all its recruitment services are offered free of charge.

The recruitment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Judiciary’s capacity in evidence-based decision making and policy coordination across the justice sector.
Earlier on, JSC also re-advertised the position of the office of the Judge of the Supreme Court.
The successful candidate will serve until the mandatory retirement age of 70, with an option for early retirement at 65 as provided under the constitution.
CJ Martha Koome said remuneration will follow the guidelines set by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, with a gross monthly package ranging between Sh956,192 and Sh1,268,996, inclusive of benefits.
Applicants must meet strict constitutional and statutory requirements.
They are required to hold a law degree from a recognised university, be advocates of the High Court of Kenya or possess an equivalent qualification from a common-law jurisdiction.
Candidates must also demonstrate extensive legal experience.
This includes at least 15 years as a superior court judge, or 15 years as a distinguished legal practitioner with relevant experience.
Alternatively, an applicant may combine legal practice and judicial service, provided the total experience amounts to not less than fifteen years.
Koome highlighted the need for applicants to meet the integrity standards set out in Chapter Six of the constitution.
They must demonstrate high moral character, impartiality, good judgment and a commitment to public service.
The CJ said candidates must also show strong professional competence, communication skills, fairness and a wide breadth of legal and life experience.
The JSC emphasised that the application process would be open and competitive, with detailed instructions available on its official portal.
