A sombre mood filled the International Christian Centre (ICC) on Mombasa Road on Friday as family and friends gathered for a requiem mass in honour of three siblings who died in a tragic road accident earlier this month.

The service brought together family and friends who came to pay their last respects to Njeri DeLeon, Emmanuel DeLeon, and Kairo Winkelpeck.

Their three caskets were placed at the front of the church.

The three died following a crash along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway on January 4, 2026.

Emmanuel and six-year-old Kairo died at the scene, while 16-year-old Njeri succumbed to her injuries days later in a Nairobi hospital, where she had been placed in a medically induced coma.

The family, which lives in Waterloo, Iowa, had travelled to Kenya for the holidays.

Their parents survived the accident with minor injuries and have remained in the country to coordinate funeral arrangements.

The tragedy has sparked an outpouring of sympathy both in Kenya and in the United States.

A GoFundMe fundraiser set up to support the family has raised more than $70,888 from hundreds of donors offering condolences.

During the mass, speakers described the loss as “unimaginable”, calling for comfort for the grieving parents and the wider family.

Later today, the bodies of the three children will be cremated at the Kariokor Hindu Crematorium, marking the final farewell to a family remembered for their love, joy and closeness.
