A video has surfaced online showing a Kenyan police officer in full uniform struggling to walk in Kendu Bay town, Homa Bay County.
The footage, which has since gone viral, shows the officer visibly intoxicated while on duty. He is seen staggering across the road, unable to maintain his balance or walk in a straight line.
A Scene of Struggle
The officer’s movements are heavy and disjointed. He appears to be fighting to stay upright, with his steps landing unpredictably as he traverses the local streets.
The person recording the scene from the safety of a car provides a running commentary in Swahili, highlighting the severity of the situation.
"This officer is very drunk here in Kendu Bay. Look at this officer, he is very drunk; he has stress," the narrator says from inside the vehicle.
The video has sparked a heated debate regarding the welfare and discipline of the National Police Service (NPS).

Concerns Over Discipline and Mental Health
Kenyans on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) reacted with a range of emotions, from anger to empathy. Hon John Njue (@JohnMsafiri001) remarked that discipline regarding alcohol consumption has "deteriorated to an alarming level," suggesting it raises serious questions about the mental state of officers on patrol.

Dha Ogol (@Shadrack_SNBMO) echoed these concerns, stating that the "mental state of our police officers is bad" and describing them as slaves of the state who are told to keep quiet about their problems.
Similarly, Francis@Mutegi (@baba_makena) noted that the officer "needs help, counselling and mentoring ASAP."
Disdain for the Uniform
However, not all reactions were sympathetic. Some users were appalled by the lack of professionalism. Ohon Omondi (@OhonOmondi) questioned the "low morals" required to wear the uniform while in such a state, adding, "Moyo wangu unapasuka kwa ajili ya Kenya.”
Michael Mulongo Sikuku Namunyu (@SikukuNamunyu) pointed out the irony of the situation, noting that police officers are usually the first to raid drinking dens. Jenniffer (@Jenniff95080682) urged the public to speak out about the "disciplinary status of the Kenyan police service."
The Lesser of Two Evils?
Interestingly, a section of the public expressed a strange sense of relief that the officer was intoxicated rather than violent. BRNKit (@BRNKit) commented, "At least he isn't carrying a gun."

This sentiment was shared by Ikaria (@ikariiah), who suggested it was "better he staggers than shoot unarmed youth." KITUI PULSE (@kimmike412957) also remarked that he should bedrunk than to shoot citizens.
Calls for Rehabilitation
Many users reached out to the official National Police Service account to demand action. Musila PR (@musila_felix2) and Joe Kibet Kamau (@mjuaji2003) both tagged the @NPSOfficial_KE handle, with Kamau urging them to "rescue your colleague and take him to rehab."
Evelyne J (@EvelyneJ8) simply stated, "Rehab immediately."
