The hearing for the alleged botched cosmetic surgery case at Body by Design, also known as Omnicare Medical Limited, is expected to resume today at the Kibera Law Courts.

The matter involves the tragic death of one, Lucy Wambui Ng’ang’a, following a medical procedure.

Earlier this week, on January 19, 2026, Francis Nganga Mundia, widower to the deceased, took the witness stand to recount the events that led to his wife’s death.

Ng'ang'a delivered an emotional testimony detailing the distressing aftermath of the cosmetic procedure and the challenges the family faced in seeking urgent medical attention.

According to the widower, a postmortem examination revealed that Wambui died from severe complications arising from liposuction conducted during the BBL surgery.

He explained that his wife’s health deteriorated rapidly after she was discharged from the clinic on October 18, 2024.

The family was left with no option but to rush her to Nairobi Hospital, where her condition continued to worsen, according to his submissions.

Nganga further recalled a chilling phone call on October 23, 2024, when his wife reportedly asked him to pray for her, fearing she was going to die.

Shortly after the call, the family received an urgent alert from Nairobi Hospital to rush to her side.

Wambui passed away three days later, on October 26, 2024, prompting Nganga to report the matter to the Police Station and triggering a police investigation.

The accused in the case are surgeon Robert Maweu Mutula and the directors of Omnicare Medical Limited, George Wakaria Njoroge and Lillian Edna Wanjiru.

They face manslaughter charges linked to Wambui’s death. The three have consistently denied the charges.

The trial resumes before Principal Magistrate Christine Njagi.

Boniface Mwangi’s police assault case

In another matter, the hearing for human rights defender and social activist Boniface Mwangi’s police assault case is scheduled to proceed today at Kibera Court.

According to the charge sheet, Mwangi faces allegations of willfully and unlawfully assaulting Osman Omar, a police officer executing his official duties.

The police claim that Mwangi also used abusive language towards Omar with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

In a separate count, Mwangi is charged with assaulting Robert Oyola, another officer, at the same location—the Metropolitan Court in Kilimani, within Dagoretti Sub-County, Nairobi—on April 2, 2025.

The charge alleges that Mwangi’s actions caused actual bodily harm while the officers were performing their official duties.

Mwangi has denied the allegations, stating that he was, in fact, the victim of a violent assault.

After months of legal proceedings and delays, Mwangi finally appeared in Kibera Court for a mention in October 2025, setting the stage for today’s continuation of the hearing.
