The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has invited qualified applicants to apply for temporary positions ahead of the February 26 by-elections

The positions open include Support Electoral Trainers (SETs), Presiding and Deputy Presiding Officers, and Polling/Counting Clerks.

Interested candidates are required to apply online via https://jobs.iebc.or.ke before the deadline on Monday, January 26, 2026.

According to IEBC, the Support Electoral Trainers will assist in training presiding officers, deputy presiding officers, and clerks on polling, counting and tallying procedures.

Duties also include supervising lower-level training clusters, preparing training venues, compiling training reports and distributing election materials.

They will also be in charge of implementing electoral training plans developed by the IEBC.

Applicants must be Kenyan citizens of high integrity, non-partisan, computer literate, hold a degree or diploma, and be available for the entire exercise.

They should have proven and demonstrated training skills, be able to manage people and be residents in the constituency or ward in which they apply. SETs will be paid Sh 2,000 per day.

Presiding Officers (POs) will be in charge of polling stations, overseeing the layout, security, use of KIEMS kits, voter flow and results transmission. They will be mandated to officially declare the start of polling, supervising all the election officials in the polling station, and updating and communicating regularly with the Constituency Returning Officer.

Deputy Presiding Officers (DPOs) will support POs in the duties. Requirements include being a Kenyan citizen of high integrity and non-partisan, a degree or diploma holder, computer literate, a strong communicator, and can manage people and sensitive data.

They must be available for the entire period of the exercise and be residents in the constituency/ward in which they apply. POs will earn Sh2,000 per day, while DPOs will earn Sh1,800 per day.

Polling/Counting Clerks will assist in setting up polling and counting rooms, managing queues, verifying voters, issuing ballot papers and sorting votes during counting.

Applicants must be Kenyan citizens of good character, should have scored Grade C- and above in their KCSE C exam, and residents of the constituency or ward in which they apply. Clerks will be paid Sh1,000 per day.

The IEBC urged applicants to ensure compliance with all requirements and availability for the full duration of the exercise.

The commission emphasised that these positions are critical to the smooth conduct of the upcoming by-elections and form part of its ongoing efforts to enhance credible, transparent and efficient electoral processes.
