Kenyan digital content creator and influencer Shes Kemunto is moving from social media commentary to active matchmaking.

In an exclusive interview with journalist Moses Sagwe from Mpasho, she revealed details of her new premium WhatsApp dating initiative.

The programme is a response to consistent requests from her followers who are tired of the "toxic" Nairobi dating scene.

Kemunto, known for sharing anonymous confessions about health and relationships, says this is a natural evolution of those conversations.

The most discussed aspect of the new group is the pricing structure. Kemunto is charging men KSh 4,000 to join, while women are charged KSh 2,000.

She explained that this price gap is a deliberate strategy rather than a form of discrimination.

“The price difference isn't about discrimination; it’s about supply, demand, and commitment, she said.

The higher fee for men acts as a specific filter. It is designed to ensure that male participants are financially stable and serious about finding a partner.

Kemunto believes that when participants pay a premium, they are more likely to have "skin in the game" and follow the rules.

"For men, a higher entry fee acts as a filter. It ensures they are financially stable enough to be looking for a serious partner and are willing to invest in the process,he added.

She also explained the fee for women:For Women: It encourages a diverse pool of participants. Ultimately, it balances the energy of the room. When people pay, they play by the rules. It’s about skin in the game.”

Why WhatsApp Over Traditional Apps?

While many use apps like Tinder, Kemunto has opted for WhatsApp because it offers a more personal touch.

She describes regular dating apps in Kenya as digital catalogues where people browse without any intention of committing.

These platforms are often filled with "Subaru boys" and "catfishes" looking for quick thrills.

WhatsApp, by contrast, removes the veil of anonymity. Because users’ names and phone numbers are attached to their actions, Kemunto believes it fosters a more accountable community.

Vetting and Safety Measures

Safety is a primary concern for the initiative. Kemunto is leveraging her massive "Blacklist" database—individuals previously exposed in her confessions—to vet applicants.

If a person has appeared in her DMs for the wrong reasons in the past, they will be denied entry.

A Shift in Philosophy

Kemunto clarifies that she is not moving away from her roots but is now offering a solution for those who want a stable home after surviving the streets.

"My 'city girl' advice was about survival in a toxic environment. This group is about thriving... let me help you find a home."

To protect high-profile or discreet individuals, Kemunto is offering "Ghost Profiles" where she acts as a direct bridge without them entering the public group.

For regular members, she maintains a strict policy against doxing, with the threat of public shaming as a deterrent.
