Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei has congratulated Kenya’s new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Maurice Makoloo, as he officially begins his tour of duty in London.
In a statement on Wednesday, Sing’Oei said Makoloo’s appointment comes at a critical moment in Kenya’s diplomatic engagement with the UK.
“Congratulations, High Commissioner of Kenya to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland Maurice Makoloo,” Sing’Oei said.
“May your tenure as Kenya’s ambassador to the Court of St James elevate one of our most important relations higher and deepen the dimensions of our cooperation.”
Makoloo, who arrived in London on Thursday, shared reflections on his early experience in the role, describing his first day as both humbling and energising.
“Beyond the journey itself, I felt the excitement in anticipating the partnerships we will strengthen and forge with the United Kingdom, the Kenyan diaspora, and friends of Kenya,” he said.
He added that assuming the position comes with a deep sense of responsibility.
“I reflected on the opportunity God has given us to serve and further strengthen our bilateral relations,” Makoloo said.
The new envoy said he was warmly received by staff at the Kenya High Commission in London, including Charge d’Affaires Ali Mambo, Deputy Head of Mission Ambassador Warui, and First Counsellor Fidel Ongute.
Also present was Nicholas Jarrold, the UK’s Special Representative of the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs. “I truly feel at home,” Makoloo said after the reception.
Makoloo now takes up one of Kenya’s most strategic diplomatic assignments, with priorities expected to focus on trade, investment, diaspora engagement, climate cooperation and defence ties between Nairobi and London.
The Ambassador previously held the post in Vienna but was moved in a 2025 shake-up.
The August changes affected 11 diplomatic stations, with the State House saying the exercise aimed at optimising performance and enhancing service delivery.
