Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has condemned a deadly bandit attack in Samburu County that left two people dead, three injured and livestock stolen on Thursday evening.
According to the Governor, residents from Isiolo and Samburu were going about their routine Thursday market activities in Wamba Sub-County when the incident occurred.
He said gunmen ambushed a lorry transporting livestock from Lolkuniyiani Market at around 5.30 pm, between Sapashe and Lerata, as it headed toward Isiolo.
“Unknown armed bandits attacked a lorry transporting livestock… During the attack, two people lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries. The assailants escaped with twelve head of cattle,” Governor Guyo said in a statement.
He called on the Samburu County security team and national agencies to launch swift investigations and bring the attackers to justice.
“We strongly urge the Samburu County security team, in collaboration with all relevant national security agencies, to expedite investigations, pursue the perpetrators, and take decisive action to restore safety and security,” he said.
Guyo also condoled with the affected families, pledging support from the Isiolo County Government.
“On behalf of the County Government and the people of Isiolo, we convey our deepest condolences to the families, relatives and friends of the deceased,” he said.
“We stand in solidarity with them during this difficult time and wish the injured a speedy and full recovery.”
The incident adds to ongoing security concerns along the Isiolo–Samburu border, where bandit attacks and livestock theft remain persistent challenges.
Authorities are yet to confirm whether any suspects have been identified.
In October 2025, a teenage herder was shot and killed in an attack by cattle raiders in Marti area, Samburu County.
Three other herders were shot and wounded in the attack, police said, adding that the deceased was 17 years old.
The raiders escaped with an unknown number of livestock after the raid, prompting an operation from multi-agencies.
The area is among those under Operation Maliza Uhalifu aimed at dealing with bandits.
The operation has managed to contain crime in the area and other counties despite persistence.
The operation targets Baringo, West Pokot, Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Meru and Isiolo counties.
Besides retributive reaction, strategic investment and sustainable development have also taken a prominent place among the government’s planned crime control interventions for Kenya’s Northern frontier and the Kerio Valley belt.
In 2025, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen announced a new policy shift, which institutionalises the command structure of the NPR officers, stating they will hence be under the direct command of the Officer Commanding Police Stations (OCS) as part of efforts to enhance their operations.
