National Liberal Party leader Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli/FILEA conglomerate of parties under the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition has called for the immediate resignation of Minority Leader in the National Assembly, Junet Mohamed.
Led by National Liberal Party leader Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli, the parties argue that Junet’s continued stay in office undermines the coalition’s credibility and dishonours the legacy of its founding leaders.
A statement by the over 10 parties accuses Junet of making reckless and defamatory utterances about legacy of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta served the nation with dignity, protected Kenya’s territorial integrity, upheld national cohesion, and shepherded a peaceful transition of power. Any attempt to diminish that record, is dishonest and an affront to millions of Kenyans.”
Junet has accused his colleagues in ODM of sabotaging the party's leadership behind the scenes while advancing deals with former Uhuru.
The Suna East MP has claimed a top official whom he did not mention has attempted to convince him to ditch the broad-based proponents and join the opposition with the promise of Uhuru's support in 2027.
Junet said he turned down the idea, arguing that Uhuru did not have much more to offer than what he was capable of giving when he was the president.
He said the late Raia Odinga lost the 2022 presidential election even with the support of Uhuru.
"They call others brokers while they want to auction the party to Uhuru; now there are two brokers in the party. They are making a lot of noise in ODM because they have a plan to destroy the broad-based government so that we go the opposition route. Uhuru had all the powers with him but Raila Odinga lost," he argued.
In the statement, the parties said the conduct of Junet reflects a pattern of internal sabotage.
“In light of these developments we call for the immediate retirement of Junet Mohamed from all Azimio leadership positions”
Beyond rhetoric, the National Liberal Party and the other Azimio constituent parties pointed to unresolved concerns over the mismanagement of agents’ funds allocated for the 2022 general elections.
They claim these failures critically weakened grassroots operations, compromised electoral vigilance, and directly contributed to the coalition’s repeated losses in its presidential bid.
The parties requested former Uhuru to convene a consultative meeting of all Azimio‑affiliated parties to chart a new leadership path following the demise of Raila.
They insist that Azimio, which was born on March 12, 2022 out of unity, reforms, and democratic aspirations, must now cleanse itself of actions and actors that work against its destiny.
The purpose of the meeting to be convened by Uhuru, they say, must be to fill vacant positions at both the National Executive Council and the Council, restore internal discipline, and prepare vigorously for the 2027 general elections.
